It is October now, and while
the leaves are turning and begin to fall, we also find ourselves at a turning point
in the year. We begin to make our
preparations for winter, putting things away, gathering things in, getting out
the warmer clothes, and the list goes on.
In short we prepare for what is coming. If we don’t, we may be able to
get by, but we will simply be trying to keep ahead as we are unprepared for the
future.
As we approach our fall
finance campaign here at the church (which you will be hearing more about in
this newsletter and mailings), it is time for us to prepare for what is coming
as well. We know that we will have to pay our bills and do what we can to keep
what we have. But we also know that the
church can and should be so much more.
For 2009 we will set some pretty lofty goals for us as a congregation
both financially and spiritually. I as
your pastor trust and pray that we will meet those goals, for not only a
quality ministry at First United Methodist Church, but also for making a
difference in our local community and in the larger world. When we prepare for what lies ahead we are
better able to be ready when new challenges arise.
Our theme this year is One
with Christ, One with Each Other, One in Ministry. As we seek to live out
our mission for making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the
world, we know that we can accomplish these things as one people. We, though we are many through Christ, are
made one. Let us prayerfully consider
the ministries God is calling us to, and what ministries we can enhance, to
continue to make this church One that is in ministry for all.
Peace and Prayers, Rev.
